Hamo set to celebrate
THE scene is now set to celebrate 30 years of sailing at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week (AHIRW) from August 17-24.
A raising of the flag ceremony and firework display at the Hamilton Island Yacht Club will officially open the landmark event on Saturday, August 17, led by Queensland's tourism minister, Jann Stuckey, Hamilton Island's owner, Bob Oatley and Audi Australia's managing director, Andrew Doyle.
Now the largest offshore regatta in Australia, AHIRW has evolved over the past three decades into a spectacular display of on-water racing, paired with the finest cuisine, exclusive fashion shows, flowing champagne and celebrity guests.
The 2013 event also marks the 10th anniversary of the Oatley family's custodianship of Hamilton Island.
With more than 150 yachts already entered, the regatta is set to be the best yet. Events on this year's shore-side social calendar include a Collette Dinnigan resort show and cocktail party; with Hamilton Island the only location outside of Paris where the internationally acclaimed fashion designer has chosen to show her collections.
Audi ambassadors and iconic Australian chefs Matt Moran, Kylie Kwong and Shannon Bennett will each present unique, new gastronomic experiences throughout the week.
The Wild Oats wines ladies lunch will feature master patissier Adriano Zumbo and the beef and reef dinner with the world's fastest sailor, Peter Larson, is expected to be a sell out.
