Hanson urges Turnbull to build Central Qld coal rail line

PAULINE Hanson will this week urge Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to build the rail line needed to open up a multibillion-dollar coal industry in central Queensland.

The One Nation leader says the Federal Government should take responsibility for the 400km train corridor from the Galilee Basin to the coast "as a part of Australia's national infrastructure strategy".

"This will be the second time I've put my case to the Prime Minister, sighting (sic) the Government's golden opportunity to profit between $600 million and $1.2 billion each year from Adani and other coalmines within the Galilee Basin who all need haulage access to Abbot Point port," Ms Hanson said.

"Without it, mining in central Queensland will be stifled and jobs will be lost."

Senator Hanson's call comes just a day after Opposition Leader Bill Shorten gave the strongest indication yet that Labor will withdraw support for the Carmichael megamine planned by Indian energy giant Adani.

During November's state election campaign, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk dramatically announced a veto on Adani's $1 billion NAIF loan application to build the rail line.

Her deputy Jackie Trad has refused to confirm whether the State Government would support a similar bid by freight company Aurizon, saying the application is "inactive''.

Senator Hanson said: "Labor were once a party for the blue-collar worker, but they're on a path to selling out miners' right across the country and turning their focus on being a voice for vegans and bludgers."
