Hard-fought victory for McCormack
HE BOASTS an undefeated 7-0 record after Saturday's Airlie Fight Night IV success but Dan McCormack said it was the toughest win of his career.
The Cannonvale local took on Mount Isa's Quevarn Patuwai and prevailed on majority points decision, winning 30-28, 29-28 and 28-29.
"It was definitely the toughest fight I've had," he said.
"I knew I'd won the first two rounds but the third was getting tough toward the end and I was getting tired. I thought 'just survive this round and you've won'. I remember thinking 'just don't get knocked out' and I hadn't had that feeling before. Normally I'm aggressive in the third round, going in for the kill but I had nothing left... I just had to stay on my feet."
McCormack, who felt the pressure of expectation, said it was the "best show" he had been a part of.
"Walking out in front of the crowd was the best feeling in the world. That's what's so good about it, you take the gamble and there's a good chance you're going to get knocked out in front of 1000 people but that's what makes it exciting."
