Hardy in red-hot form for Valleys
CRICKET: The Canecutters were looking to bounce back from a demoralising defeat last week in Proserpine Cricket, however a century from Valleys batsman Scott Hardy led them to victory with his second unbeaten tonne in as many games.
The win also means Valleys will finish the year on top of the Proserpine Cricket table.
Batting first, the Canecutters struggled early with Valley's Aaron Regan (2/39) making the early breakthroughs.
Matthew Camm (28) joined opening batsman Simon Vickers at the crease with the pair putting on a 68-run partnership. Nick Cantrell (2/39) brought an end to Vickers innings, with Simon falling agonisingly short of his maiden century on 98. Tony Hinshcen (2/42) made inroads in Canecutters middle order before youngster Jayden Lane (30 not out) proved his all-round capabilities with a well-measured innings to see the Canecutters finish on 8/207.
Valleys brother duo Simon and David Vickers worked in tandem to restrict the early flow of runs as David (2/28) ensured the Canecutters remained in touch. Opening batsman Scott Hardy was once again Valleys' saviour, with no answers to his attacking batting style. However, he was fast running out of batting partners with Matthew Camm (3/51) slicing through Valleys' middle order. Tony Hinschen (19 not out) was a strong supporting act batting at number seven to allow Hardy to continue on his attacking ways to finish with a stellar 127 not out to see Valleys home by five wickets with only a few overs to spare.
