Harry’s hoping his healthy idea catches on

HARRY Thompson, 17, wants to wage a war on the Coast's junk food industry.

The Buderim teen says unhealthy food and coffee have flooded the Coast's fast food market, and he's determined to create some balance.

Harry plans to set up Swift Smoothies, which will sell "fast food" with a difference.

The only sugar in a Swift Smoothie will come from natural fructose, he said.

Yoghurt and other dairy ingredients will also be sugar-free and will not contain artificial flavours or preservatives, Harry said.

The business idea was a family dream since the Thompsons arrived on the Coast in 2001.

The original vision for a drive-through juice bar was devised with his dad, David, but had been refined with the help of mentors through Generation Innovation's GI Challenge, he said.

Supporting local farmers was an important part of his vision, and he had set up a supplier network of local farmers.

"We've dedicated our company to supporting local businesses," he said.

Harry said he used to live in Rockhampton, where there was much stronger community awareness about the importance of buying local farm produce.

"This business is going to help other farmers produce their goods and create a sustainable crop cycle here on the Sunshine Coast," he said.

Harry said he planned to set up a market stall at Fisherman's Rd markets, where he would have no direct competition, then moving to sporting events and other markets.

Harry needs to raise $2500 to start Swift Smoothies.
