Harvey Norman fined over advert

THE Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has brought the hammer down on electronics retailer Harvey Norman.

The Brisbane Times reports Harvey Norman has been slugged $1.25 million for misleading advertising following action taken by the ACCC.

In September 2010 the retailer used a national catalogue to promote the sale of 3D televisions, despite the televisions only being available in certain areas.

The Federal Court's decided the catalogues created the ''misleading and deceptive'' impression the televisions were available in all areas and consumers could buy and use a 3D television to watch the 2010 AFL and NRL grand finals in 3D format.

Despite this impression, the 3D broadcast was only available to Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
