Ironman models for savvy designer

WHAT’S a girl to do when she wants some attention for her hot new dress?

If, like Sunshine Coast fashionista Hayley Turner, she’s a savvy media woman, then she enlists someone smouldering and famous to help to show it off. Like ironman Matt Poole.

“I was trying to think of something eye-catching I could do, so I was trying to think ‘Who is someone hot on the Sunshine Coast?’”

The bold 31-year-old first-year fashion design TAFE student set her mind on the Mooloolaba ironman she met briefly last year.

The new Mooloolaba resident asked him to meet her on a lonely road on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of a Sunshine Coast state forest. And ever the gentleman, 22-year-old Matt agreed.

Such was the excitement Hayley generated over the collaboration, several businesses volunteered services, including Sunshine Coast model Astrid Eaton from V Management Faye Rolph Models and Mark’s Mooloolaba Hair.

A “besotted” Matt was shot with Astrid (in a dress which was “a stinky old curtain”) by fellow TAFE student Philip Marschke.

Hayley decided to pursue her dream of creating fashion along the lines of icon Audrey Hepburn.

“She’s one of those women who people always say “would look great in a hessian bag,” Hayley said.

Enter Hayley’s collection, Jute, which will feature on the catwalk in Sunday’s University of the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day sustainable fashion parade.

Matt said he was more than happy to help out the budding designer.

“I’d definitely do it again, though I’m no oil painting,” he said.
