Help Your State, Help A Mate

WE have launched a campaign to get Queensland’s flood devastated regions back on their feet.

APN Australian Regional Media, publisher of this website, has donated $100,000 to the Premier’s Flood Appeal and is encouraging all Queenslanders to follow suit through its Help Your State, Help A Mate campaign.

As people throughout the state pick up the pieces and start to rebuild their lives and communities we want to ensure they know they are not alone.

Premier Anna Bligh said Queensland was facing a flood disaster on an unprecedented scale and would require an unparalleled rebuilding effort.

“Help your state, help a mate - true Queensland sentiments, are never more appropriate than at this time of widespread devastation,’’ Ms Bligh said.

“I appeal to all citizens to give generously to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal. APN has always been a champion for regional Queensland. I thank APN for its generous contribution to the appeal and for launching Help your state, help a mate.”

This disaster will have a wide-reaching impact, far beyond the areas where homes and businesses were inundated.
The cost to repair shattered infrastructure and services will go beyond $5 billion and the state’s rural industries are tipped to lose more than $1 billion.

The mining industry has been battered, with the affect on lucrative coal exports expected to have a dramatic effect on the state’s bottom line.

More than 200,000 people across more than 40 communities need a helping hand to rebuild and donating money is the best way you can help.

Funds from the appeal will be administered by the Red Cross, so readers can be assured money they donate will go to those most in need.

To donate phone 1800 219 028 or visit www.qld.gov.au/floods. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
