8 injured in Gateway pile-up that blocked the Bruce
LATEST: EIGHT patients have been taken to hospital in a stable condition after a pile-up on the Gateway Mwy at Bald Hills this afternoon.
Southbound lanes of the motorway have been closed, with traffic backed up the Bruce Hwy.
It's understood a truck and several other vehicles were involved in the smash.
Paramedics have taken four patients to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital; another was taken to Prince Charles Hospital and one to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Two more patients have been taken to Redcliffe Hospital.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has reported congestion on the Bruce Hwy from North Lakes to Pine River, with partial lane closures.
Long delays are expected to continue
EARLIER: A MULTI-vehicle crash on the Gateway Mwy has blocked southbound lanes as emergency services respond to reports of six patients.
Early reports suggest a truck was involved in the smash.
One person is believed to be trapped inside a vehicle.
Five Queensland ambulance crews are at the scene.
Drivers are being warned to avoid the area at Bald Hills and traffic has already backed up along the Bruce Hwy as far as Dohles Rocks Rd, at Murrumba Downs.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has reported all southbound lanes are blocked.
Long delays are expected.
