Highway crash claims two lives
THE 40-year-old male driver involved in the single vehicle fatal crash north of Proserpine on Sunday has been released from Proserpine Hospital.
The crash claimed the lives of a four-year-old boy and a 49-year-old woman.
The vehicle they were travelling in on the Bruce Hwy flipped onto its roof and landed in Greta Creek, 35km north of Proserpine.
The four-year-old boy is believed to be from the Townsville area and the woman from Maryborough.
A 19-year-old girl from Townsville was also a passenger in the car but only suffered minor injuries and was not admitted to hospital.
Swift water rescue crews from both the Bowen and Proserpine Queensland Fire and Rescue services were called to assist with the accident.
The woman died at the scene and the boy was removed from the wreckage but later died in hospital.
Police are yet to release the names of those involved in the crash but it is believed they were related to each other.
The Forensic Crash Unit is still investigating the cause of the crash.
