Hooked in the Whitsundays

A CREW from one of Australia's most popular fishing television shows 'Hook, Line and Sinker' recently filmed in the region.

Nick Duigan and Andrew Hart spent several nights on the outer reef with Sea Fever Sportsfishing's Ashley Matthews, and were able to capture footage for an entire episode. The boys caught fish jigging, on poppers and even dived in to grab crayfish.

The highlight was a massive Spanish mackerel, caught by Duigan at well over 30kg.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when the big mackie came over the side. I didn't know they came that big," he said.

The crew also spent a day marlin fishing off Hayman Island, which yielded a good size dolphin fish and yellowfin tuna, as well as a day's barra fishing on Peter Faust dam.

"We didn't catch a barra, but some local lads turned up for 15 minutes and caught two in front of our eyes. Thanks to Grant from Whitsunday Fishing World for being a great guide for the day," Hart said. "It's really easy to film such good stuff here in the Whitsundays, such a spectacular part of the world and so many fish to catch."

The episode featuring the Whitsundays will air on 7Mate on September 20.
