Horror buggy crash on Hamo

PLEADING guilty to driving without due care and attention has left a Blackrock man with a $1500 fine.

The court heard how on February 27 about 12.30pm Michael Howard Dever, 33, who was on Hamilton Island for a wedding, was at a golf driving range when a bus came to take wedding guests to the marina.

With not enough room on the bus for everyone, Dever took some passengers himself in a golf buggy. On the second trip Dever and his three passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were driving up a hill when the buggy started to slow down. One of the passengers jumped out of the buggy to push it from behind. While turning around to ensure the passenger had got back on, Dever turned the wheel to the left, causing the buggy to go off track and fall 30m down a hill. The accident ended in multiple injuries to all those involved. Dever paid $8500 to replace the buggy.
