House slides off back of truck

A HOUSE in Airlie Crescent in Airlie Beach slid off the back of a removalist truck on Saturday.

No one was injured when the house slid close to neighbouring homes before it was repositioned on the back of the truck.

Land around the house had been flattened to allow easier access for the truck so it could mount the house on the back of it.

Police were due to escort the removal on Sunday but that was delayed because of the accident.

Traffic banked up behind the truck on Tuesday morning when the house was transported to its new location at Botanica in the Whitsundays.

Former owner of the house Bill Kellaris said he had only just sold it a few days prior to the move.

"The reason we had to get it off so quickly was because once Airlie Crescent was closed the only way we could get it off was in pieces," he said.

Mr Kellaris said the house was obviously more soundly constructed than expected "because any house that falls off the back of a truck and doesn't get damaged at all is a testament to its construction I think".
