How a new social media campaign will support Mackay

A NEW social media campaign has been launched in Mackay to offer critical support to community organisations in the wake of COVID-19.

Regional Social Development Coalition will roll out the innovative #wesupportcommunity campaign via Facebook to communicate important CovidSAFE information to the region’s community and social services.

The campaign has been made possible through funding from BHP’s Vital Resources Fund.

RSDC chair and Mackay Deputy Mayor Karen May said the Greater Whitsunday region had been deeply impacted by the pandemic.

“The groups we represent deliver critical services across our region, often to the most vulnerable, so it is vitally important they have the necessary CovidSAFE plans and protocols in place,” Cr May said.

“The #wesupportcommunity campaign will bring together relevant CovidSAFE information, resources and training in one easy to use place.

“RSDC’s community development team will also be on hand to assist organisations to pivot and modify their operations to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and clientele.”

BHP head of corporate affairs Dominic Nolan said the coalition had come up with an innovative idea to support the region’s most vulnerable.

The #wesupportcommunity campaign will be launched on Facebook today and is targeted at social support services, community groups and not-for-profit organisations which play an important role in connecting the community.
