School in lockdown as police hunt for gunman

A YOUNG man has been shot in bushland near Kingston, south of Brisbane.

Police confirmed they are investigating after a 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Around 10.10am police were called to bushland near Mudgee Street after reports a man had been injured.

The man has been transported to Logan Hospital for treatment to what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Nearby Kingston State College was sent into lockdown as a precaution.

Steven Asanuma told News Corp a man ran to him at a home next to the scene saying his mate had been shot in the knee.

"He look scared and worried definitely," he said.

Police attended the location and a search of the surrounding area was conducted.

Investigations are continuing with detectives to conduct further inquiries with the victim.

Polair has been called in to assist.

Reports suggest the dog squad is also on the ground searching.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed that paramedics are treating a patient for a wound to the knee.

It is understood the young man is in a stable condition and has been taken from the scene by ambulance.
