Husband and wife team take top khanacross spots

The dust was flying last weekend as the Whitsunday Sporting Car Club held its Twilight and Gravel Khanacross two-day event.

The weekend of racing kicked off on Saturday evening with twilight racing and a dinner sponsored by Tim and Kym Hall of Supersonic Couriers.

The competition was close and the going was tough in the still dusty conditions, but excellent times were posted in the six rounds contested.

Times began to fall and competition continued to be close as six more rounds were contested on the Sunday. Old and young rivalries were once again brought to the fore, with the ultimate outright winner being Tim Hall and his wife Kym Hall a very close runner-up.

The next event to be held is the IDrive on Saturday July 29 from 10am at the club home circuit at Tonker Park on the Proserpine airport road.

This is a driver trainer program for young drivers. Participants aged from 12 to 17 can develop their driving skills to a level where they can confidently compete in club level motor sport events. IDrive is structured around the basic discipline of motorkhana. Motorkhanas are a great introduction to motorsport. They test participants' acceleration, braking and manoeuvrability skills in a variety of small tests marked out by traffic cones.

The Whitsunday Sporting Car Club Khanacross is open to all ages both male and female and is a great way for families to compete together and have a lot of fun. Call Karen Scott on 0403 032 217 for more information.
