Indians take lead over Cubs in World Series

BASEBALL: The Cleveland Indians have taken a 1-0 lead in the World Series after a 6-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Indians got off to the perfect start in front of their home fans thanks to starting pitcher Corey Kluber, who set a World Series record with eight strikeouts through the first three innings of game one.

He was taken out of the game in the seventh inning to allow Andrew Miller to complete the shutout.

Roberto Perez led the way for the Indians, hitting a solo home run in the fourth and a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.

Game two is in Cleveland tomorrow morning (AEST).
