Infectious smiles spread all round at school fete

THE buzzing excitement on kids' faces was infectious at the Proserpine State School Fete on Friday night.

With a wide range of traditional carnival activities, stalls and rides suitable for juniors and seniors, there was no denying it brought the Proserpine and broader Whitsunday community together.

Students had the opportunity to watch as Proserpine State School principal Rob Templeton was subjected to a cream pie throwing session from 7.30-8pm.

Pie hurlers only had to pay $1 to have a go.

Mr Templeton said he was pleasantly surprised at the turnout for the fete.

"We were concerned this year with the hardship the community has been through (dealing with Tropical Cyclone Debbie) but this (event) has shown that the community needs this,” he said.

"It has brought everyone together, not just the Proserpine school community but the wider community.

"This is a really safe environment and reflects what our community is, it (was) good to see the way everyone was behaving and the smiles on everyone's faces.”

Mr Templeton thanked the P&C and Proserpine State School Fete committee for organising an outstanding event.

"I would like to thank the fete committee for all the time and effort they have donated to ensuring our fete was a huge success,” he said.

Proceeds raised from the fete will go towards completing the parent room refurbishment in the old dental clinic, which will be "an asset for everyone to enjoy”.

This was the third year the Proserpine State School night fete has been held.
