Instagrammers to meet in Whitsundays

WHITSUNDAY residents are invited to an "Instameet" with key social media influencers at the Airlie Beach lagoon today.

The two-hour event, starting at 4.30pm, will feature ten key national and international Instagrammers, including Lauren Bath from Australia and Colby Brown from the USA. Participants will make their way from the lagoon to the Coral Sea Resort capturing sunset pictures along the way.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) CEO Danial Rochford said the Instagrammers were professional photographers "who inspire and interact with a global community" and he encouraged members of the local community to attend.

Instagram is a photo-sharing application used by more than 100 million people around the world.

"It is absolutely crucial for us as a destination to take advantage of this social media platform and we are thrilled to have this group host an Instameet right here in Airlie Beach," he said.

The Instameet will kick-off a four day itinerary for the Instagrammer's that will include sailing the Whitsunday islands, visiting Whitehaven Beach and exploring the Whitsunday Coast.

Tourism and Events Queensland's (TEQ) Regional Director (Whitsundays and Mackay), Racheal Klitscher said collectively this group of Instagrammers had an audience of more than 2.5 million people.
