THE Whitsundays will soon be host to a professional boxing fight night.

‘Get ready to rumble' are the words that boxing enthusiasts will hear when the event takes place on Saturday October 30.

The night is scheduled to have six professional boxing fights with the main event featuring current WBO and IBO Asia Pacific Junior Welterweight Champion Steve Wills.

Event coordinator Henk Plug said that he could not wait to see the night unfold.

“It's shaping up fantastically,” he said.

“I'm not happy, I'm ecstatic.”

Wills is undefeated after 15 bouts and hopes to continue that trend in an international contest in which he will be defending both his titles in the Whitsundays.

The WBO has Wills ranked as the 11th best boxer in the world for his class and it is expected with a win here in the Whitsundays would see him move into the top 10.

Boxing match-maker Patrick Kennedy said that the region was very lucky to have such an accomplished fighter commit themselves to the event.

“It's a big adventure and a big expense but it's pretty exciting for a small town like Airlie Beach,” he said.

“We just need to spread our wings now to get people to support the big night.”

Along with this, current Queensland Heavyweight Champion Mick King from Townsville will defend his title against Brisbane's Shane Tilyard.
