Irukandji suspected inside stinger nets

THE Airlie Beach Lifesaving Club yesterday advised over social media that a suspected irukandji jellyfish had been found inside the stinger net at Cannonvale Beach.

The club recommended visitors to the beach stay out of the water.

The post read: "Hi everyone, earlier today Airlie Beach Lifesaving Club found what we believe to be a irukandji jellyfish at Cannonvale Beach (inside the nets) we recommend no swimming due to this discovery."

The irujandji jellyfish is potentially deadly, with a number of stings reported in the Whitsundays over the past few weeks.
