Is this the luckiest town to buy Lotto tickets?

PROSERPINE'S luck was out when Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsundays but with two big Lotto wins in six weeks, the town's now luckier than most.

A 'grey nomad' from New South Wales, who bought a 12-game QuickPick entry from the Fresh Fields Casket Agency in Proserpine, was one of four division one winners nationally in Saturday's Gold Lotto draw. She pocketed $985,744.11.

It was the second division one winning entry sold in Proserpine in the past six weeks.

A Proserpine retiree won more than $2million in the June 3 Saturday Gold Lotto draw with an entry purchased at Whitsunday Computers & Stationery, Main Street, Proserpine.

When a Golden Casket official confirmed the NSW woman's win first thing Monday morning, the lucky traveller described the moment she realised she'd won.

"It's amazing! I'm so happy!” she exclaimed. "I was sitting on the bed in the caravan marking the numbers off my ticket. I got the first number, 25, and I had it on seven games. I thought 'oh this ticket is good', and before I realised I kept marking the same line all the time.

"I got to the last number and I was too scared to look. But sure enough there it was!

"I went very quiet as I was in a caravan park and I can't very well go silly!”

The happy winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the win was an amazing addition to her ongoing "big trip” around Australia, which had seen her already clock up tens of thousands of kilometres.

While the woman still has many more kilometres to travel on her current journey, she is already planning her next expedition - a once-in-a-lifetime family holiday overseas.

"I want to spend time with my family and grandchildren and this means we can all go together,” she said.

"I feel very lucky. We've had enough bad luck in our lives, so we're happy to have something to help out and make my family a little happier and life a little easier.”

Fresh Fields Casket Agency owner Barbara Cochrane said the outlet was celebrating selling its first division one winning entry.

"We've sold a couple of division two winning entries, but this is our first division one. Hopefully the first of many to come for our customers!” she said.

"We've had a lot of grey nomads travelling through the region during recent weeks and it's great to see so many visiting us again.

"With two division one wins in Proserpine during the past six weeks, perhaps the universe is making up for the cyclone! It's our time to have some good news!”

She said it was good to have something fun to talk about whilst the town continues to recover from Cyclone Debbie, slowly but surely seeing shop reopening.

"Buy your tickets in Proserpine,” she said. "It is definitely the place to be."

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3755 were 25, 44, 41, 1, 11 and 22. The supplementary numbers were 9 and 23.
