CLIVE and Angie Tudge had so much fun at the 2014 Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club Rendezvous, they actually "moved" to Airlie Beach.

"We came up from Brisbane for our first one last year and we never went back," laughed Mrs Tudge, while dressed as a pirate wench at the Cape Gloucester Resort on Monday afternoon.

Just around the corner at Montes were another bunch of SICYC members preparing for the Rendezvous' massive 60s-themed party this Saturday night.

THIS band of people who had already gathered in the Gloucester Passage at the beginning of this week, are only a small proportion of the 800-strong crowd expected for this weekend's seventh SICYC Rendezvous.   

What started as a get-together for an "exclusively non-exclusive" yacht club, named after a tiny islet here in the Whitsundays, has grown in less than a decade to a phenomenon that attracts people from across the globe and raises money and awareness for an important cause.   

The SICYC Rendezvous has become arguably the biggest fundraiser for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, raising over $77k in the last year alone.   

The club's founder Ken Thackeray describes it as "something you couldn't have written a business plan for", but says the essence of the event is still all about having fun.   

Already at Montes there's an abundance of fun as those arriving compare costume notes for upcoming events.   

On Friday the dress code is SICYC blue polo shirts for the special club party that's held on Shag Islet itself.   

This is the only event of the weekend open to club members alone, with Saturday's swinging sixties night and Sunday's pirate party open to all from far and wide.   

Buses have been organised from Airlie Beach to the Rendezvous throughout the weekend for $10 each way or a gold coin donation for those hopping on at Dingo Beach or Hydeaway Bay.
