Jacobs back in the chair

CHRIS Jacobs has resumed the Chairman's position of Tourism Whitsundays (TW) now that the local government elections are over.

Mr Jacobs stood aside to support mayoral candidate Tony Maine who was unsuccessful in his bid to become mayor of Whitsunday Regional Council.

Chief Executive Officer of TW Peter O'Reilly said Mr Jacobs had done the right thing in standing aside while a conflict of interest existed.

"Now that Chris's conflict of interest no longer exists, he has resumed his role as Chairman of Tourism Whitsundays," Mr O'Reilly said.

Mr Jacobs said he was very happy with the indication of improved support for TW from mayor-elect, Jenny Whitney.

"Throughout the council election many of the candidates came forward offering support for improved and sustainable funding for Tourism Whitsundays, and that is the main reason I got so involved in the campaigning," Mr Jacobs said.
