Jail term for man after decade of indecent acts
A BLACKS Beach man is now a reportable offender for life after a decade of indecent conduct.
Brad William Simpson yesterday pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent treatment to children under 16 for exposing himself to two sisters at the Mackay library last year.
The first incident was seen by the elder sister, who was 15 years old, on May 8.
Then on May 22 the younger girl, who was 13, told her sister she'd seen a man at the library exposing himself. Simpson, then 34, was identified off a photo board by one of the girls, Crown Prosecutor Brendan Manttan said.
Now 35, Simpson yesterday pleaded guilty in the District Court in Mackay to a further charge of doing an indecent act.
On February 4 this year a woman, who was with her two-year-old child, saw him rubbing his exposed penis on a bus in Mackay.
Simpson's indecent behaviour goes back 10 years. In 2005 he was sentenced for three counts of indecent acts for masturbating at women who passed his Mackay home, the court was told.

On May 13 in 2013 he was convicted of indecent treatment of a child under 16 after he masturbated on a bus in Mackay in front of a 14-year-old girl. He was also dealt with for masturbating on the footpath on Wood St in a separate incident, the court was told. This prior conviction plus the two new convictions for indecent treatment of a child means he will be a reportable offender for life.
Defence barrister Bronwyn Hartigan argued against an actual term of imprisonment and pointed to the need for him to be rehabilitated was exceptional in this case.
"A rehabilitated offender will be a safer prospect than one who is merely imprisoned," she said.
However, Judge Paul Smith sentenced Simpson to six weeks in jail after which he will be placed on a two-year probation order.
