Joint venture to take off soon
IT IS anticipated that the joint venture investment in the Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine will be signed off during the current term of council, according to Whitsunday Regional Council CEO Scott Waters.
Speaking at last Wednesday night's public consultation meeting at the Reef Gateway Hotel, Mr Waters told the room of 30 people that he had signalled to the market that the council would look to sign off on a contract "toward the end of this year or early next year".
Council is fielding expressions of interest for a joint venture partnership to turn the Whitsunday Coast Airport into a transport and logistics hub and international airport.
Last Thursday, Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen, speaking at the opening of the expanded Whitsunday Coast Airport departure lounge, announced he would try to secure a deal with the Federal Government to fund Border Force services at the Whitsunday Coast Airport when it becomes an international airport.
