Judge cries over girl's torture

A SUNSHINE Coast hinterland couple, who lured a 13-year-old girl into their home and subjected her to nearly 15 hours of sexual and physical torture, have both been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Justice Martin Daubney cried as he sentenced the 33-year-old woman and 42-year-old man in the Supreme Court in Brisbane this morning for what he described as the worst case of its kind to ever be heard before a court in Queensland.

The couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to more than 30 charges, including 13 counts of rape and seven counts of indecently dealing with a child. The woman pleaded guilty to an additional charge of attempted murder.

The 13-year-old girl was bound and gagged and then subjected to dehumanising, sadistic sexual abuse during the evening of April 16, 2010 and into the next morning. The couple lured the girl to their home, about 90 kilometres northwest of Brisbane, through text messages, in which they posed as the woman's daughter inviting the child for a sleep over.
