Judging the great cocktails of Australia

FISH D'Vine's Mark Wyatt, also known as Dr Rum, has been selected to judge the Queensland final of Bacardi Rum's Bacardi Legacy cocktail competition in Brisbane and quite possibly the Australian finals of the project aimed at discovering the next great, classic cocktail.

The ultimate winner of the event will travel the world, visiting some of the greatest cocktail bars and also going to Bacardi's Mexican distillery to actually blend their own rum.

Mr Wyatt is being flown to Brisbane and will be put up at the Treasury Casino Hotel to use his finely tuned palate to taste test the creations of Queensland's best cocktail mixologists.

The Rum Bar is looking forward to trialling some of these creations once Mr Wyatt returns.

Fish D'Vine co-owner Kevin Collins said he is delighted to have Mr Wyatt recognised this way by the industry.

"All of us know Mark's passion for his product and unbelievable knowledge of this world renowned spirit, and he is quickly establishing himself as Australia's leading rum expert and at the forefront of the new rum revolution sweeping Australia's trendiest bars," he said.

"In fact, we knew it nine years ago. It's just taken the rest of the country a few years to catch on, including both Coles and Woolworths who have recently opened rum bars in Brisbane".
