Junior cricketers bounce back

JUNIOR cricket returned in style on Friday night, with a host of exciting matches taking place at the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds.

Good numbers were recorded in the under-15s, under-13s and Have a Go programs, led by a twenty20 stoush between Taipans and Cyclones.

Taipans made first use of the pitch in the under-15s clash, but they were immediately on the back foot thanks to some tremendous Cyclones bowling pressure.

Jack Dwyer, Jayden Lane and Jack Dray restricted the Taipans to 3/10 before Regan Knight and Cooper Lane resurrected the innings with a smart 44-run partnership.

Regan (17) and Cooper (14) enabled Taipans to post 60 from their 20 overs.

In reply Cyclones were stunned by a brilliant Max Bernett over. In reply Cyclones were stunned by Max Bernett taking three wickets in one over. The youngster took three wickets in one deadly over, However it wasn't enough to completely derail Cyclones, who reached their target in the 18th over thanks to Jayden Lane (20), Howard McDonald (6) and Jackson Crossley (17).

Field two hosted the under-12's Red and Blue teams in their twenty20 clash. The Reds batted first, compiling a competitive 105, led by Jay O'Loughlin (44), Max Watson (15), Kohn Mau (10) and Greg Chapman (10).

In return the Blues started slowly, but accelerated through the middle overs.

Corey Dwyer (24), Jack Pini (19), Drayer Smith (15) and Lachlan Edmondson (14) all found runs however the Blues fell four runs short of their target.The Have a Go and Have a Game cricketers continued their skill development with drills and games.

The two groups split-up to play modified versions of the game, with tee-cricket and double-wicket matches.

Junior cricket takes place each Friday from 4-6pm at the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds.
