Junior dirt riders excel
MEMBERS of the Whitsunday Dirt Riders sent dirt flying in all directions as they hit the track of Drays Park for the club's second race day of 2014 last Sunday.
There was a strong contingent of racers aged from 4-years up to the oldest competitor of 62, who made the most of the perfect racing conditions.
There were many impressive performances across the classes and the local stars dominated their respective fields.
Club president Matt Ogden said the success of the event proved that the sport operates in a safe, family-friendly environment.
There was a fantastic turnout of juniors for the single day event and like all sporting codes their involvement is fundamental in continuing the sport in the Whitsundays.
The club has welcomed many new, first time riders who reaped the benefits of racing in a competitive environment on the track.
Riders travelled from as far away as Townsville, Moranbah and Mackay to compete in the exciting, fast paced sport of motocross.
Ogden thanked all local businesses for their ongoing support of the club and its events.
"Like all clubs, our activities wouldn't happen without community-minded sponsors of our club," he said.
The Whitsunday Dirt Riders will be hosting their next race meet at Dray's Park on Sunday, May 25.
