AUSSIE RULES

WHITSUNDAY junior Aussie Rules players were on show last week in front of staff from the Gold Coast Suns AFL club who are entering the competition in 2011.

Thirteen players represented the Mackay Crows All Stars team playing two trial games against Townsville All Stars and Cape York All Stars aged 14-18 years.

The Whitsunday players were Brad Barnett, Rhys Adamson, Mitch Brockley, Bo Hall, Bob Reents, Gauge Hill, Max Manners, Ryan Goding, Michael Galea, Harry Quod, Cooper Wells, James Nightingale and James Warren.

The Mackay All Stars were a combined team containing some of the best up and coming talent from the Mackay and Whitsunday regions.

Running a watchful eye over the proceedings were staff from the new Gold Coast Suns including their Development Academy Manager Andrew Johnson.

Already six boys – Max Manners, Bob Reents, Ryan Goding, Jacob Lowe, Brad Barnett and Gauge Hill have been identified to go on to the next step of the development program set by the Gold Coast Suns.

“The Mackay Crows squad was a very young one in comparison to the other two teams, with again the focus of Mackay AFL Development Manager David Harding being on a two year plan to expose and develop as many juniors as possible to representative football,” Furhmann said.

Best performed players on the day for the Whitsundays were – Bo Hall, Michael Galea, Brad Barnett, Harry Quod, James Nightingale and Rhys Adamson.

The Whitsunday representative players will complete the pre-Christmas program on Wednesday December 8.

The next training block of five weeks will start at the Whitsunday Sports Park on January 10 at 5pm.

This is an open invitation to anyone interested in trying out for the Mackay Crows under 14/16/18's. If there are any enquiries please call Jamie Fuhrmann on 0407 648 095.
