Juniors rewarded at ceremony
THE Whitsunday Sailing Club's Commodore's Ball was also a celebration for the club's junior sailors, many of whom were awarded trophies for their performances on the water this year.
Off-beach commodore Ali Swain said in addition to the trophies, learn to sail students were presented with certificates containing a personal message to them all.
"We've had a great term with our new program and we'd like to see all those kids come back again next year, along with some new faces" she said.
Swain said the Optimist sailing team was continuing to grow, with plans to establish an additional laser squad in the new year.
"The Whitsunday Sailing Club committee, members and staff wish all the 420 and Opti kids the very best. The club will be supporting the families of those junior sailors competing at their respective nationals with a payment of $500 to assist with the costs involved," she said.
Optimist sailors who will represent WSC at the nationals competition this summer will be Aidan and Ty Gummow, Cedar White, Hamish Swain, Brendan Hoffman and Eva Lorenz. Representing WSC at the 420 Nationals and Youth Nationals will be Klaus Lorenz and Ollie Annear.
