Karli's bear gets a new wardrobe

WHEN asked how a Mackay charity could grant one wish for a cystic fibrosis suffer, Karli Elder's answer was simple.

Karli asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to create a wardrobe for her teddy bear.

For the volunteers of the foundation to make this wish come true they asked nine-year-old Karli to draw a set of perfect outfits.

Karli's mum, Faye, said the team from Mackay then came to Proserpine to measure up the teddy.

Last week the team of Make-A-Wish volunteers returned to Proserpine to bestow upon Karli a North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos supporters outfit along with an elf costume and a Run As 1 jogging outfit.

"The anticipating of the wish and building the memories will last a lifetime,” Faye said.

"I think it's a really lovely thing that they do.”

Faye said it was tricky explaining to Karli why she had been chosen to receive a wish.

"We haven't explained why she is getting a wish. We said 'you know why you need to have physiotherapy and take tablets' you don't say why she has been granted a wish.

"We tell her 'you have cystic fibrosis and you have to work extra hard to be healthy'.”

Along with the teddy's wardrobe, the foundation is sending Karli and her family on an all-expenses paid trip to the Gold Coast.

They will go to two theme parks and eat complementary Krispy Kreme doughnuts and receive some spending money.

"It's going to be a wonderful family holiday,” Faye said.
