Karters come out swinging

THE karts made a comeback to the Whitsunday Raceway on Sunday morning, with racers coming from all over.

"There's one from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and might be one or two from Emerald," Whitsunday Motorsports Club president Adam Stroud said.

The event marked round one of the Club Championships, with points allocated to the winner contributing to the overall standings.

Dark clouds threatened early, but the rain held off, allowing racing to go ahead.

Max Deguara took out the Cadet 12 category, followed by Riley Beggs and Lara Hadlow.

The Cadet 9 race saw Jack Nicolls take first position over Drew Deguara.

In the Sportsman Light division, Dylan Oates, James Mogford and Jame Furini ran in first, second and third respectively.

Sunday's Junior National Light race finished up with Nathan Hadlow taking out the top position, with Daniel Murrell in second and Nicholas Garioch in third.

Open Performance 160kg was claimed by Hayden Schneider, while the Open Performance 180km had Peter Buchbach in first place followed by Tony Spencer in second spot. The final category, the Sportsman Heavy, saw Bevan Garioch at the top of the podium positions, with Dale McDonnell running second and Leo Rodriguez finishing up third.
