Keegan off to a winning start
COOLUM Beach’s Julie Keegan and the Australian women’s triples team have made a winning start to their Commonwealth Games campaign.
The Australian team, which also includes Claire Duke and Sharyn Renshaw, crushed Botswana 11-4 15-2 yesterday to remain unbeaten after defeating an Indian team including 15-year-old prodigy Tania Choudhury 10-10 11-3 on Monday.
Having played two matches at the JN Sports Complex, Keegan, who was the only Australian not to venture to the sub-continent in April for the warm-up event, said it was difficult for those at home to comprehend the surface that they are playing on.
“It’s probably hard for people at home watching on TV,” she said.
“It is pretty tricky out there.
“If you adjust your line just a fraction you can swoop under the head and it’s the same with your weight too.
“It’s all a matter of just persevering and not getting too frustrated.”
They were due to face a bigger test late last night, against the highly rated Scottish team.
