Kids learn brushing basics

THERE was a mad flurry of brushing and flossing at the Rose St home day care centre last Thursday.

Kids and their parents turned out for a fun-filled education session on oral hygiene and healthy eating.

Dr Prashant Kulkarni said it was important to keep the message to the children simple.

"We showed them how to brush teeth using models and also we have some fruits and vegies so they can judge what is good for them and what's not good for them," he said.

Foods with a high sugar content are not good for developing teeth and were also shown to the kids as an example of what not to eat.

The use of oversize models and fun toys that doubled as educational tools helped get the message across to the children.

"These will help them to learn. It's a fun way to teach them brushing," he said.

Dr Kulkarni said the kids also got to take home a brushing kit which included a timer so kids knew exactly how long they actually brushed for.
