Kids to go wild in youth development program
THE Wild Ones Adventure Program is now taking enrolments for term 1, with the official sign-on day to be held at the Whitsunday PCYC on Saturday, February 1.
The program is designed to inspire creativity, build confidence and teach valuable life skills to boys and girls aged from eight to 12 years.
Term 1 of the program will have a large emphasis on learning about the region's emergency services and will include workshops with the Whitsunday Police Station, Whitsunday Fire Station, State Emergency Service (SES) and Queensland Ambulance Service.
There will also be fun games nights, a hip hop dance party, skate afternoon and barbeque, camp-in movie night and an exclusive show with the barefoot bushman.
Program co-ordinator Ron Petterson urged local residents to register early before the Whitsunday PCYC's official activity sign-on date as spots were filling quickly.
"It was great to see our local youth getting out and about in the region, taking on new challenges while learning new life skills and developing strong friendships," he said.
"This term we will be focusing more on fun indoor activities due to the wet season but will follow with more camp-ins and camp-outs, hikes and excursions next term."
There are only 60 positions available at a cost of $100 per term.
The Wild Ones Adventurers will gather at the Whitsunday PCYC every Thursday from 5.30pm.
The first gathering for term 1 will be held on Thursday, February 6.
