Kimbra's love on the run

AWARD-winning Kiwi songbird Kimbra has spoken for the first time of finding love with an Aussie pop frontman.

Born in Hamilton, the chanteuse, 21, is dating lean Melbourne singer-guitarist Josh Moriarty from Miami Horror.

Kimbra told the Herald on Sunday she had kept the romance secret for more than a year, but says it is "going very well".

Kimbra, who won Best Female Artist at Australia's Aria Awards last month, admits her relationship with Moriarty hasn't been easy because of work commitments.

"I don't get to see him all that much these days as his band spends a lot of time touring in America, but we do our best," she says. "The benefit is, we understand each other's lifestyle."

Through the past year, the relationship has grown away from the spotlight, apart from speculation on fan sites. The couple snatch time together between gigs and recording around the world.

"I guess we don't have a routine life like other people do, but these are the challenges of being a musician. There are pros and cons of every career and we try to make our schedules cross whenever we can.

We got to spend some time together in America recently, so where there's a will, there's a way."

The Melbourne-based singer is tipped for stardom after her debut album, Vows, shot to No3 in NZ in its first week of release. Her combination with Gotye on the song Somebody That I Used To Know reached No1 on both sides of the Tasman this year and was also a hit in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Asked if the couple plan to marry, Kimbra said: "At this stage, no. I'm a bit too young for that yet."

Before going to the US to promote her album, Kimbra will spend Christmas with her family in Hamilton. "We'll have a nice lunch and hang out."
