Koala care taught in workshops

THEY are cute and sometimes cuddly but most importantly, need our care.

And we need to learn how to do it.

Fauna Rescue Whitsundays, in partnership with Ipswich Koala Protection Society's Dr Rebecca Larkin and president Ruth Lewi, will host a workshop in the Whitsundays dedicated to and specialising in koala management and care on Saturday, August 8.

Next week's workshop will be held at the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service office in Jubilee Pocket (with entrance via Mandalay Rd).

The all-day workshop, from 8.45am-4.30pm, includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

The topics covered include assessment of koalas, their rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, record keeping, general education and release of the marsupial.

Fauna Rescue Whitsundays president Jacqui Webb said this workshop would provide vital information for locals within the Whitsunday region, whether they were members of the non-profit voluntary organisation or not.

RSVP's for the workshop are next Thursday, August 6.

To register email frwsecretary@gmail.com or phone 4966 8020.

The koala workshop is free for Fauna Rescue Whitsunday members or $30 for non-members. You never know, you could one day save a life.
