Ladies fall in tough trip

SOCCER: The Whitsunday Football Club ladies travelled to Mackay on the weekend but unfortunately they couldn't get the job done, going down 3-1 to City Eagles.

With the team missing some key players from their midfield, the ladies struggled initially to adapt to new positions and combinations as they let in two goals during the first half.

Darcey Borellini did her best to steady the team from the centre midfield and early in the second half she got a long shot away that was unlucky to hit the cross-bar.

Striker Darcy Semmler was ready for the rebound and ran in to finish the shot, getting taken out by the keeper in the process.

Whitsunday FC player Michelle Wild said the team never gave up.

"With renewed enthusiasm, the ladies fought hard to get a second goal, however despite many close opportunities, they couldn't find the back of the net," she said.

Player of the match went to Catherine Cooper who was outstanding as goalkeeper the entire game and instrumental in holding City to only three goals.

The team will now take on the Lions Soccer Club at Andergrove on Satuday at 3pm.

The Premier Men's team returns to action this weekend with a game against Crusaders in Mackay at 7pm.

The team is currently sitting tied for first on the ladder with Mackay and the Magpies but Whitsundays are third on goal difference.

The Reserves are on another bye.

The mens Division 1 team returns to face Wests United in Mackay at 5pm.
