Ladies vying for premiership

SOCCER: The Whitsunday Football Club ladies have a shot at taking out the 2016 premiership after putting paid to Mackay Wanderers 3-0 at the weekend.

Anthony Nobilia said the side would have to wait until the weekend to see who they would be up against.

"They've got a week off and they've just got to wait for the winner of the preliminary finals,” he said.

Nobilia said the local ladies "dominated the game”.

"They had a game plan to focus on and they stuck to it,” he said.

"They scored a few goals through Becka Page, as usual; she's our golden boot.”

Despite the win, the ladies went into the match up out gunned.

"They were two players short at the start of the game,” Nobilia said.

"They started with nine and then they received another player 20 minutes in. So they were a man down anyway and they still managed to dominate Wanderers, which is good to see.”

The ladies will take to the pitch to contest the premiership on September 17.

The Premier Men didn't manage to take out the weekend's semi-final, leaving them with one last shot to qualify for the Grand Final.

The side went down 2 - 4 to the Mackay Magpies, who are now through to the premiership match.

This weekend the Premier Men take on Wanderers in Mackay.

Nobilia said they had won one of three matches against Wanderers this season.

"They finished on equal points on the table, but we had a one goal advantage over them for the year,” he said. Nobilia encouraged supporters to make the trip to Wanderers Park at 7.30pm on Saturday.
