Large crowds for 18th Wintermoon festival
HUNDREDS of Whitsunday residents were among the strong crowd at the 18th annual Wintermoon festival at Cameron's Pocket, west of Calen, on the weekend.
The festival has always been held on the first weekend in May which was previously a long weekend for May Day.
That changed last year but the festival continues to attract large crowds.
About 1200 people camped on site for the weekend and there were about 300 day tickets sold on Saturday and almost the same number again on Sunday.
Jenny Drake, who is one of the main organisers of the festival, said the perfect weather was a highlight, along with a few first-time performers.
Visitors travelled from every state in Australia with performers coming from as far away as Western Australia.
Comedian Steady Eddy was a real hit as the MC on Saturday and Sunday nights.
Some of the popular musicians who returned included Dave Flower, Damian Howard and The Twine.
The Hillbilly Goats performed at Wintermoon for the first time along with the Mae Trio , Jodi Martin and several other artists who had not been to the annual festival before.
The next festival on the same site will be the Wintermoon Spring Fest on October 3-6 when Mental as Anything will be performing.
