Late delivery ‘incredible’
AUSTRALIA Post has proved that the mail always gets through - even if it is 23 years' late.
At first, long-time Airlie Beach local Roz Jennings was very confused last Wednesday.
Sorting through her mail, she found a postcard from lifelong friend Mae Secomb.
"And I though, that's funny. I'm sure Mae isn't doing a round-Australia trip at the moment."
But her confusion gave way to surprise and delight, when a closer inspection of the yellowed postcard revealed it had been sent in 1992.
"It's just incredible," Ms Jennings said.
"Can you believe that? It took 23 years to get to me. When I gave it to Mae to read, she was a bit bamboozled as well.
"Good old Australia Post, no doubt about it, it gets there in the end."
Ms Jennings took the postcard along to her Zonta meeting and sitting next to Mae, told her she had something that would "really surprise me", Ms Secomb said.
Ms Secomb said she looked on in stunned amazement when Ms Jennings pulled the card out of her bag.
