Letter W proves lucky for Westpac

THE Westpac crew on board Bobby D were the winners of the second Corporate Sailing Challenge on Saturday.

Two teams from Westpac and another two from the National Australia Bank went head to head on Pioneer Bay with Westpac having what it took, winning ahead of NAB who took out third and fourth position respectively.

Westpac competitor Amanda Baxter said the letter 'W' in Westpac stood for winners in the event.

"We had a great time and were able to work with the boat to get it running to its potential," she said.

"It was my second race but it was just as good as the first."

The Westpac crew decked out Bobby D with team flags, adding to the already evident team rivalry.

Baxter said the sailing challenge was a great team environment to be part of.

"Our skills are starting to improve I think as things are becoming more familiar and starting to click," Baxter said.

"We try to move around the boat and learn new skills."

NAB competitor Heath Wogan was on board Questionable Logic for the race and said the strong wind conditions this week added extra excitement to racing. "It was a little more complicated which meant we were a lot more involved in helping sail," he said.

"The crew were really encouraging which was great too."

Wogan said he was already considering taking up the sport after having raced in just two events in the series so far.

"I think a lot of people are keen to continue with it," he said. "At the end of the day it has been a lot of fun."
