Lions Club donates to CQ Rescue
LAST week, Proserpine Lions members showed their support for an invaluable service provided to the Whitsunday community.
On Wednesday evening at a dinner meeting of the Lions, Proserpine branch president Tim McBride presented a cheque to Anka Young of CQ Rescue.
Ms Young travelled from Mackay to accept the cheque of $1000 on behalf of the organisation, which provides a world-class aeromedical and emergency helicopter rescue service for the people of the Whitsundays.
Ms Young gave a brief rundown of the costs involved in running the rescue organisation.
"It costs $7200 per hour to run the chopper and to date they have performed 124 tasks recently,” she said.
Mr McBride said the money donated to the CQRescue helicopter was raised through the weekly "goose club” raffle.
"They provide a tremendous service to our area and they help a lot of people,” he said.
"Our main aim is to help local people. It's not the first time we have donated to the CQ Rescue and I am sure it won't be the last.”
Mr McBride said Proserpine Lions supported many local causes and gave internationally to people in need.
"We support a lot of causes like Meals on Wheels and overseas causes as well, but we try to concentrate on local causes as much as we can,” Mr McBride said.
