Former MP suspended from LNP after criticisms
A TOWNSVILLE LNP stalwart has had his membership suspended after publicly criticising the party over its failed state election campaign.
Former Herbert federal MP Peter Lindsay spoke out against the party in the Bulletin last Thursday, saying Pauline Hanson's One Nation deputy leader Sam Cox would have won the seat of Mundingburra for the LNP had his nomination not been rejected by the LNP leadership.
In an email obtained by the Bulletin, Mr Lindsay today informed party members in Townsville that he was suspended the same day.
Mr Lindsay held Herbert from 1996 to 2010 and is considered a senior powerbroker within the party.
"In Townsville, the LNP has now lost three elections in a row," Mr Lindsay's email read.
"Apart from Senator Ian Macdonald, there is now little prospect for eight to 10 years of having another LNP member elected in Townsville.
"My comments simply reflected the feelings of most party members in the North."
Mr Lindsay declined to comment when contacted by the Townsville Bulletin.
The LNP has been contacted for comment.
