Local Comm Bank branch is back

THE Cannonvale Commonwealth Bank branch was completely destroyed in the Whitsunday Shopping Centre fire of April.

But on Monday, the branch re-opened after having operated from a shipping container for the past six months.

Branch manager Lisa McAliece said the new store featured a 24/7 self-service kiosk.

"It's something we haven't had in this area," she said.

"So our customers can come in at any time and do their banking.

"They can deposit coin, they can get change orders, exchange cash for change."

Ms McAliece said the pop-up branch meant their staff had been able to get back to work in a matter of days after the fire.

"We were fortunate, all our staff continued to work as normal," she said.

"They were also able to work at Proserpine as required as well, so it's fantastic that no one was impacted in their job."

Ms McAliece said Commonwealth Bank had "reacted quickly to get the pop-up branch so we weren't inconveniencing our clients".

"Not only that, it saved a 25 minute trip to Proserpine to do their daily banking," she said.

The branch is now situated in shop 2A at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre, adjacent to the Business Centre.
