Local fighters charging up for Airlie Fight Night
AIRLIE Beach Fight Night is coming back with a vengeance on Saturday, November 30.
Seventeen local fighters will put their skills in the ring for a blockbuster night of boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA) and Muay Thai.
Some are seasoned fighters who already have strong support in their home crowd, while others will be taking to the ring for the first time in their respective categories.
There will be 16 fights throughout the night to give guests more bang for their buck as the local contestants take on some of the best fighters in Australia.
This time, six inexperienced men will participate in 12 weeks of training to be able to compete in the bouts.
The 12 week training covers all aspects fighting from strength and conditioning, skills and technique and nutrition.
In the lead up to the event the fighters will be training three nights per week for boxing, five nights per week for MMA with sparring practice every Saturday.
Head instructor of MMA and owner of Whitsunday Martial Arts, Anton Zaffir was impressed with the high quality of new fighters.
"Shane Vorstman is our only heavy weight MMA fighter and he is definitely going to hurt someone," he said.
"Most of the boys are already athletes in their chosen sports, so they are picking up the physical aspects quite quickly."
Mr Zaffir said he was also looking forward to seeing crowd favourite Muay Thai fighter Adam Mitton take to the ring and deliver another knockout performance.
VIP tickets for the event cost $69, general admission are $49, children's tickets are $29 and a family pass for two adults and two children is $99.
Tickets can be purchased at the Whitsunday PCYC, LA Iconic and Whitsunday Martial Arts.
