Local girls selected in rep team
AUSSIE RULES: The Mackay Crows selectors have announced an initial 26-player squad for the 2016 Under-17 AFL Queensland State Championships in Brisbane next month.
Four St Catherine's Catholic College students were selected. Takeisha Graham, Caitlin Newbery, Ruby Poole and Darcy Semmler have a chance to play with the team.
The initial squad of 26 has 13 players from a non-playing background. The Whitsunday Sea Eagles will be impressed with six players selected from the Whitsunday Coast.
2016 Mackay Crows coach Matthew Bateman says he is pleased with the balance of the squad.
"We are really happy with the 26 we have picked, it's a fantastic mix of youth and experience,” Bateman said.
The squad takes part in a two-day camp over the school holidays and then numbers will be cut from 26 to 20 ahead of the October State Championships.
