Local man donates his own tips to playground

ALLAN Pannett has a heart of gold and it certainly shone when he made a generous donation to a local charity on Tuesday.

Mr Pannett has been driving the Reef Gateway Hotel courtesy bus for three months now and in that time, he has earned himself an impressive total of tips - $1000 to be exact.

But instead of pocketing the money, Mr Pannett decided to donate his tips to Logan's Adventure Playground.

"I had all these tips from the courtesy bus and I said to my boss - the big boss - 'what do you want me to do with this' and he said to stick it in my pocket but I decided to give it to charity,” he said.

Having followed Logan's story since the very beginning, Mr Pannett said he knew he wanted his first lot of tips to go towards the playground.

"I thought I'd lend a helping hand and I know the more money they can get, the better,” he said.

Logan's mum and Play and Shine Project Group president Lisa Christofersen said she was overcome with happiness when she received Mr Pannett's phone call.

"I couldn't even comprehend the selflessness and the fact that he could have spent those tips he earned on himself but instead chose to give it to our charity,” she said. "It's what makes me keep going.”

Ms Christofersen said Mr Pannett's donation would be put towards two separate slides or a double slide which she said would be "suitable for families too”.
